The Bucks County Foodshed Alliance, Bucks County chapter of Buy Fresh Buy Local® announce the 2017 series of popular farm evenings that introduce consumers Show More...to the local small-scale producers who put the freshest foods onto our tables via direct sales, community-supported agriculture operations (CSAs), farmers' markets, farm stands and other venues.
The 2017 series opens Wednesday, June 7, with a visit to Hershberger Heritage Farm, 1614 Ridge Road, Sellersville, PA 18960. While the tour is free, donations to offset the cost of BCFA's programs are strongly encouraged.
Hershberger Heritage Farm is a family owned and operated certified organic farm run by the Layton Family. After spending eight years in the US Air Force, the Laytons settled in Bucks County. Hershberger Heritage Farm's goal is to produce food that is grown responsibly and sustainably. They offer Certified Organic Chicken, Certified Organic Turkey, Certified Organic Eggs, Organic Grass Fed Beef, Organic Pastured Pork, Organic Grass Fed Lamb, and Organic Livestock Feed.
Hershberger's Farm Store will be open for your convenience during the Farm Tour; come prepared to stock up! They also sell at the Doylestown, Yardley, and Southampton Farmers Markets.

The evening's potluck meal runs from 6:00 to 7:00pm, with the tour to follow. Visitors are expected to bring a dish to share with others and their family's own eating equipment, beverages and seating, and they should expect to carry out their own trash. This educational and entertaining event is appropriate for children of all ages who are under an adult's supervision. Please wear appropriate footwear for the farm.

Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station and Rutgers Cooperative Extension proudly announce the annual Snyder Farm Open House and Great Tomato Tasting.
The event includes the very popular tasting of more than 80 heirloom and hybrid varieties of beefsteak, plum, cherry, and grape tomatoes. Other highlights include tastings of a variety of farm grown fruits and vegetables and recipes featuring Jersey Fresh produce.
Open House features include the Melda C. Snyder Teaching Garden which showcases demonstration gardens of deer tolerant ornamentals; Blueberries, Hazelnuts, Dogwoods, and Hollies from the Rutgers breeding programs; a turf labyrinth; vegetables for small space gardening and an "apple wall" featuring the NJAES Tree Fruit Breeding Program for home orchards.
Wagon tours of the farm's research plots will be held throughout the event. Also, chef preparations of several recipes, educational displays from various organizations and fun family farm photo opportunities.
Rutgers NJAES faculty and staff and Rutgers Master Gardener volunteers will be available to provide information and answer your gardening questions.

The Bucks County Orchid Society (BCOS) is a small group of orchid enthusiasts that meet ten times a year to share ideas, experiences, and knowledge about Show More...orchid growing. Our membership includes beginners, experienced hobbyists, commercial growers, and AOS judges, who grow their orchids on windowsills, under lights and in greenhouses. Many bring in blooming plants for the show table. Most meetings feature a knowledgeable speaker and a plant raffle.
We are an affiliate of the American Orchid Society (AOS), participate in native orchid conservation projects, and coordinate our activities with other regional AOS affiliates.
Meetings are open to the public, and are held on the third Thursday of the month (except July and August) at 7:30pm, at the Churchville Nature Center.. ...Show Less
